Hello! My name is Owen Santin, and I am in year two of my ITEC major at York University. I am experienced with technology, but I have also worked on projects involving woodwork, such as the record cabinet my father and I built in the summer of 2024, pictured below:

The inspiration to become a programmer came when I was still young, wanting to be involved in the kind of work that makes the games I played. When I was finally able to pick meaningful courses in high school, my priorities were geared towards coding and any sort of technology. I was hooked. Up to that point, taking those courses was the most passionate I had ever been about my education. Ever since then, I have been focused on developing my abilities to work with electronics, which eventually led me to major in ITEC.

I am not too experienced with repairing things yet, but I would love to learn to repair pieces of technology for people. The first thing most people think to do when their old devices are starting to malfunction is that they should throw them away, and buy themselves the newest model. Not enough people think about repairing what they have instead of immediately jumping from device to device. Learning how to repair these electronics would not only be beneficial to myself and others, but also the environment. Aside from that, it would be interesting to learn about the insides of the technology I use every day.

Skills:

  • Able to program in Java, Python, and HTML
  • Mathematics
  • Proficient at time management and organization
  • Adept writing capabilites

Other past projects include:

  • High school project involving building a tiny motorized wooden car for a contest (won a close second place!)
  • Building my desktop computer
  • Year 1 university project on designing a webpage

Extra info:

I love all things music, including my newfound hobby of collecting records. I started collecting in January 2025 and haven’t stopped since. Playing music this way is so much more involved than just pressing one or two buttons on Spotify, it makes you think about the albums much more. I am also passionate about coding! Currently I am working on creating my own little website for personal use.
