Hi all! I'm Emily-Mae and I am currently a student at UC Davis as a design major. I am hoping to work in the graphic design or UI/UX field, but I also have a strong background in the fine arts. I am also in the University Honors Program and plan to create a design project as a part of my undergraduate project/thesis. Additionally I starting a position as a scientific illustrator and print designer for The Aggie Transcript.
I would describe myself as a highly meticulous person who tends to pay attention to a lot of the little details. Really I am a perfectionist but I find this useful to many aspects of my life. I like taking on challenges and learning new things on top of being a growth oriented person
Before I figured out that I wanted to go into the design field, I have primarily been an artist and I love painting. That is something that I will never stop practicing but unfortunately, it is not the most practical for a job. But I find the fact that I can paint and that I have this whole set of skills, incredibly helpful in my design work and other aspects of my life. I included a sample of some of the paintings I did for a course at my community college.
I have some experience doing hand-sewing and have utilized that to repair a lot of random holes or loose threads in my own clothes. I would like to get better at it eventually as my mom is really good at those types of repairs and has also done a lot of professional sewing work, mostly on sewing machine though. I would also like to eventually learn more about making electronic and mechanical repairs because that is something that would be incredibly useful.
On top of being an artist, I also read a ton, like collecting things like pins, stickers and certain prints, and like spending time outdoors. One of my favorite places in the world is my family's cabins in the redwoods. I spend some time up there every summer and get to see my cousins!
I am using this project as a opportunity to repair an umbrella of mine that has been falling apart for years and I have just never done anything about it. I am also going to hopefully learn how to sew better and more properly because most of the time I completely make up what I am doing and it somehow works.
