The =* tag should be given for restaurants, bars, pubs, and similar POIs for indicating which Distilled beverage on Wikipedia they have available.

For tagging a distillery use craft=distillery instead.

Taginfo results show that this tag is also used as a subtag for craft=distillery to indicate what products the distillery produces, such as =whisky;gin - such usages appear to be more common than the usage documented above.
