As disused building is still building (unlike for example disused shop that is no longer a shop as you cannot buy anything there) it may be better to use building=* + disused=yes.
Note that building=* will be supported like any other building by various editors and data consumers while =* requires special support, what is rarely done as this scheme is unusual and questionable.
