The =* tag has been used to identify whether or not a feature is currently operational or working as intended. Such information is instead normally recorded using a lifecycle prefix.
Additionally, some mappers have incorrectly used this tag to describe the operating hours of a feature. The opening_hours=* tag should instead be used for this purpose.
