Open-Elevation (open-elevation.com) is a free and open-source alternative to the Google Elevation API and similar offerings. The code is fully open-source, licensed under the GPLv2. It offers a free public API which is based on the SRTM dataset. The service launched in September, 2017 and can be found on Github.
