Organised Editing

Most mapping activity in OpenStreetMap is performed by individual hobby mappers mapping independently according to their personal interests. There are also organised editing activities contributing to OpenStreetMap, in which people edit the map under the specific instructions of others.

Anyone involved in organised editing activities, either performing such edits or coordinating others to do so, should follow the Organised Editing Guidelines and be familiar with the general principles of mapping in OSM, as documented in pages such as Good Practice, How We Map, and Editing Standards and Conventions, as well as rules and guidelines for specific activities, particularly the Automated Edits code of conduct and the Import Guidelines.

All organised editing activities shall be listed at Organised Editing/Activities.

As with any other rule-breaking mapper, users ignoring these rules may be reported to the Data Working Group (DWG). If you encounter problematic organised editing, please start by leaving changeset comments explaining what the contributor can improve on. This both creates an opportunity to learn and collaborate and, in cases where contributors ignore feedback, establishes justification for a block by the DWG.
