A tag for a decommissioned locomotive which has become a tourist attraction and generally remains in one place.

For a decommissioned railway car (freight or passenger), see historic=railway_car instead.

How to map

Place a node node at the location of the locomotive or draw an area area for the outline and use historic=. You can also name it with name=*. If the locomotive is a tourist attraction, then add tourism=attraction.

Some locomotives are located in a building, draw a area area as a separate line with building=*. Set the locomotive separately as point node or area area in the building. Don't use building=* on trains, because a locomotive is not a house. Add to the locomotive the property location=indoor.

For a covered locomotive use covered=* or on a separate area building=roof.

Additional tags

  • name=* - the name of the locomotive, if there is one.
  • operator=* - indicates the operator or name of the company operating the locomotive (e.g. as a tourism attraction)
  • addresses - the address of the locomotive
  • description=* - description for more informations
  • start_date=* - for the launch date of the locomotive
  • wikipedia=* - museum locomotives may have a wikipedia page which can be tagged here
  • wikidata=* - equivalent Wikidata item
  • tourism=attraction - to mark it as a tourist attraction
  • heritage=* - if registered by an official heritage organisation
  • locomotive:type=* - can be used to specify the type of locomotive:

If the locomotive has some kind of amenity=* like a bar, restaurant or tourism=* like a hotel or a museum, it can be tagged as a separate node with own name and further information.

Remarks

Don't use building=* on trains, even if they remain in one place.
