From what I understand from the National Park Service's Disclaimer, their GTFS data is public domain.

General mapping guidance

Transit mapping should follow the new Public Transport schema (v2) as described in Public_transport. This means, among other things:

  • Separate route relations for each direction and route variant
  • Two nodes for each bus stop, one indicating the stop position on the way using public_transport=stop_position, the other indicating the bus stop sign by the side of the road, including any amenities using public_transport=platform (even if there is no platform).

Open Data

The Utah AGRC agency makes UTA transit routes and stops available as open data. An overview of the data available can be found here. There are no plans to import these data currently. (May 2018)

Tools

PTNA provides a daily analysis of all public transport route_master and route relation on it's US sub-page. Local mappers may compile and complete the CSV list of expected (= exist in reality) Routes in this wiki.

Utah Transit Authority (UTA)

UTA operates commuter rail (FrontRunner), light rail (TRAX), a streetcar/tram (S-Line) and bus service. For all of Utah's passenger trains (including the previous, Amtrak® and Tourism rail), see Utah/Railroads#Passenger_trains. Bus service is found in its own section below.

Local tagging conventions

We generally follow standard practices for bus route relations:

For UTA bus route naming, we adopt the following rules:

  • We use the official route names as shown on the UTA Schedules pages for the name=* tag on the route_master=* relation. For example, UTA calls Route 209 '900 East', so that is what goes into the name=* tag on the route_master=* relation.
  • On the individual routes, name=* is not recommended. All the information that should go into the name according to the (much discussed, and still controversial) guidance on the Public transport page is already contained in the other tags like ref=*, from=* and to=*. If you see a bus route relation that is not a master relation, feel free to delete the name tag.

This Overpass query will retrieve all bus route relations and masters in Utah.
