Arthur Fishlips

Arthur Fishlips is a Sluagh, presumably Unseelie, in the Kingdom of Pacifica.

Overview

Arthur, who wanted to be a garbage man as a child, is a self-proclaimed phlegmatic person, and was part of a small motley of fae near Santa Cruz, California. The motley was composed of Arthur, a troll named Jack, a pooka named Runcible, and a sidhe named Sarah. The motley travelled in a lime-green 1972 Volkswagon bus owned by Arthur, who liked it because the color was so virulently offensive.

Initially, the motley travelled the coast in the van but, when they ran out of gas money, they crashed in a house with a group of college students near a small university in Santa Cruz. While Arthur would never admit it, he was in love with Sarah. Of course, so was Jack. Arthur would claim they just respected each other, even if they never saw eye to eye.

The College Years

If you’re going to escape from college, you have to wade through a vast bureaucracy, beginning with a curriculum set by other people that defines what’s important for you. You need allies. Sarah, Jack Troll, and Runcible were Arthur's. The antidote to the Banality of college was found in their road trips. They went to SCA events in the woods and learned to fight with swords and shields. They went to Grateful Dead concerts and danced their minds out. Begging for change in Haight-Ashbury, raving with the Unseelie in Golden Gate Park, protecting Greenpeace Zodiacs from sea monsters, helloing a wounded griffin in Mt. Tamilpais, egging the homes of spooky accountants in black suits... it was one adventure after another. They had to deal with mundanity just like everyone else, but they went out and lived as well.

Arthur looks like a lot of the punks from back in the early 80s (plaid and a mohawk) and has a fish tattoo on the side of his neck. He wears his bitterness with pride.
