The Bergen Family were targeted for revenge by Rokea following the Turna'a Massacre.
Biography
In 1955, Zachary Bergen was a sailor in the US Navy. He was present at the Operation Wigwam nuclear tests, and many dying Rokea saw his face. His name was transmitted via Sending to other Rokea, who pursued him relentlessly in search of revenge. Zachary developed an intense fear of sharks; he came to believe they were capable of sin, and that perhaps the serpent in the Garden of Eden was actually a shark.
Zachary asked his family to stay away from the ocean due to his fear of sharks. His granddaughter Hannah Bergen died in a mysterious boat accident; her body was never found.
John Bergen, grandson of Zachary, brother of Hannah, also broke his promise to Zachary while on vacation with friends in the Bahamas. He encountered Marie, who lured him out onto a boat and tried to kill him. However, Zachary had told John something about Operation Wigwam, and John asked Marie about it, though he had to explain the concept of sin. Marie realized that John could lead her to Zachary, and allowed him to live.
Marie tracked John back home, and approached Zachary in John's hospital room. She explained why the Rokea had been pursuing him all these years and asked him to come back with her to face judgment for his sins. When she threatened to take John in his stead, Zachary agreed to go with her.
