Caius Rusonius Velius
Caius Rusonius Velius is a Mortal from the Ferrevadum (Iron Ford) fort during 31 BCE.
Overview
Velius' father was a Greek merchant with political ambitions who managed to make a complete hash of his schemes and finally committed suicide to avoid further disgrace. His sons scattered in search of opportunities where people wouldn't bring up the Rusonius scandal very often. For Velius, the way out was the army. He discovered an aptitude for civil engineering, and had been working his way up through the ranks with his efforts in the maintenance and improvement of fortifications, roads and siege gear.

Velius is a tall man with darker skin than most of his fellow legionnaires - the family's history of intermarriage into Middle Eastern bloodlines shows very strongly in him. He has unusually large hands with long callused fingers that are seldom at rest, and he's happiest with tools in his hands and something to make or improve in front of him. He doesn't devote much attention to his own grooming, but his gear is in beautiful condition, and he's very willing to share tips on packing, weatherproofing and the like with others, so that it's easy to tell whom he's been working with recently.
