Castoff (GTSE)

Castoffs are the ghostly representations of objects. A castoff only forms if someone cared about the object enough to miss it. Most of the time, castoffs have no anchors and get sucked immediately into the Underworld through the nearest Avernian Gate. However, castoff buildings are usually anchored to their location, and more rarely, smaller castoffs may have an anchor that permits them to remain in the world.

Despite some rumors to the contrary, castoffs have no intelligence. They may utilize certain Manifestations, Influences, or Numina in a mechanical fashion, but there is no consciousness behind it. Castoff weapons and tools remain perfectly functional for those who can interact with them, and the user may be able to activate the castoff's abilities. Castoff weapons deal lethal damage to ghosts.

It is possible for ectophages to eat a castoff in order to gain Essence or Plasm, which is the fate of most castoffs in the Underworld.
