In Ars Magica and Mage: The Ascension, certámen is a magical duel between mages. The nature of certámen allows the participants to use their magic to the best of their ability without causing real and permanent harm to themselves or each other.
The vampires of Clan Tremere can simulate certámen through a Thaumaturgical ritual.
