Chthonian

Creatures truly at home in the Underworld, the Chthonians are dangerous and deadly puzzles for the Bound. Rumored to be the ghosts of inhuman races long dead and forgotten or the ghost of a slain Kerberoi, or even of long-forgotten concepts that no living creature can recall, are among the most alien and inhuman inhabitants of the Underworld. They seem to have no logic that a Sin-Eater can reliably predict: they follow urges only loosely related to survival and feeding. Even so, sometimes one of the Bound can achieve some kind of crude communication with a chthonian, particularly if the thing has devoured ghosts recently and is still assimilating their personae and memories.
