The author calls them 'spectres', dead who have lost all sense and connection with the world. Now filled with rage and angst, their only reason for clinging to their form is to make others feel as empty as they do.

They seduce, they destroy, all for some greater purpose the author knows nothing about. In my darker moments, the thought has struck me that they, in a sense are very like me, or I am very like them.
