Cult of the Red Word
The Cult of the Red Word is one of the foremost Abyssal cults known to mages, the servants of an entity known as the Prince of 100,000 Leaves. According to them, the Prince's dark timeline is the true history of the world, and the members of the cult are in fact the rightful nobility of Earth, a teaching appealing to both the very powerful and the utterly powerless. Like the lunatic world of the Prince, they regard cannibalism as a holy action, and more than that believe it to be key to the full ascension of the Prince; the Red Word's dogma states that, with the proper sacraments, a sacrificial victim is erased from the history of the Fallen World, and another faultline the Prince can enter is introduced. Most of the time, this is just dogma, but in certain locations holy to the Prince, for example the Temple Of Holy Devouring in Savior's Rock, Massachusetts, it becomes literal fact; a person eaten within the temple is forgotten by all but the strongest willed Sleepers, and, of those, some have their mind broken by perceiving the Abyss and being possessed by gulmoth.
Because of their habits, many Red Word cultists are infected with the Hunger, but most have developed a resistance to worse stages of the disease. Sometimes that isn't enough for the more gluttonous members, but even those who have succumbed completely have a place in the cult, as embodiments of sacred cannibalism. These unfortunates are trained as Temple Hounds, the guardians and elite soldiers of the cult.
