Dread Purpose
The Dread Purpose is a set of Arcadian realms following a similar theme and bound by similar rules.
Background
Locales
- The Fell Mines: A mine created out of the body of a felled titan. Weapons made from the mine’s crimson steel are highly sought after in Faerie.
- Grinding Gears: This realm is where the majority of the Fell Mine’s materials are sent; it is here that the material is molded into a suitable form.
- Carnival of 1000 Delights: The prime Goblin Market of Arcadia, where all is for sale and neutrality is brutally enforced.
Laws of the Land
From the Ashes
Due to the massive casualty rate that changelings face on the job in these realms, the True Fae have struck a deal with the Phoenix — those who die wake, fully healed, the next day. They are restored at the exact place they died, however, which can lead to horrifying results if that location remains deadly (e.g. under a collapsed mine shaft).
A Cog in the Machine
Teamwork is a necessity in these domains. Teamwork rolls gain the 8-again bonus for both primary actor and all contributors. Such actions also take only half the normal time. Further, designated leaders may add the Expression skill to the dice pool.
The Master’s Will: Where There’s a Whip, There’s a Way
The True Fae have learned how to bolster the flagging spirits of their slaves with their cruelty. One of the Gentry may induce a Resolve + Stamina + Wyrd roll on the part of the changeling slave. On success, the slave can ignore fatigue penalties for one hour. Exceptional success, however, requires a Clarity check on four dice.
The power may be reversed, leading to a contested roll (same components as before) in which the True Fae has an unmodified dice pool of one higher than the changeling’s. If the True Fae wins, the slave suffers a -1 penalty per success difference until sleeping for a full night. If the changeling wins, he gains a cumulative +1 bonus to subsequent uses of the power for 24 hours.
