Eon de l'Etoile

Éon de l'Étoile is a Eighth generation Ventrue Prince of Bézier during the Dark Ages.

Biography

Éon was a heretical Breton preacher at the beginning of the 12th century who preached in the North of France. His eschatological discourses find their audience after the passage of Halley's comet in 1145, revered as one of the signs of the Apocalypse. He will take from there the nickname of "l'Étoile" (The Star) and considering himself mandated by God to judge alive and dead, he will surround himself with faithful whom he will name after the Apostles.

Dressed in rich attire, the preacher's group will begin to arouse jealousy and mistrust, leading to accusations of theft and looting of monasteries and churches or even practicing magic. L'Étoile and his "Apostles" will be arrested and condemned in 1148 at Reims. Éon will avoid the stake very little and will be condemned to imprisonment for life; but the following year he disappeared.

It was actually the Ventrue Guillaume de Porhoët, who saved him from the torture of the flames the year before, who came to fetch him to Embrace him. Trained in Cainite politics, he very quickly showed extraordinary skills and his theological knowledges would allow him at the same time to dialogue with Toreadors and Lasombra close to the Church.

He strongly opposes the Cainite Heresy and, passionate about Gehenna, sees in Caïn the counterpart of Jesus Christ who, each, will purify the world during the Last Judgment. Éon has also an important collection of relics and became interested in rumours concerning a relic found in Jerusalem and entrusted to the Cathars.

Like his Sire, Éon walks the Road of Kings and while religion plays an important role in his unlife, he is mostly power-hungry. When the opportunity to join the Albigensian Crusades and conquer his own domain presented itself, he did not hesitate and took part in the capture of Bézier.

The violence that falls on the city horrifies him, especially since he understands and respects the desire for purity of the Cathar heretics and when he becomes Prince of Bézier, he begins by rebuilding the Romanesque cathedral burned down during the siege in the new Gothic style, popular with Toreadors.

In 1242, ignoring the orders of the Grand Court, he then allied himself with the Queen of Toulouse wanting to put an end to what was left of the Cainite Heresy, still very present in the region.

He also fears a rise of the Inquisition in the coming years and does everything to appease the wrath of the Church, hardening the Silence of the Blood on his domain.

Trivia
