Erianthe

Erianthe, known as the Oracle of Knossos, is Malkavian of the 7th generation. She prefers old books or rare vitae for payment.

Overview

Female infanticide was a hideous but common practice among the Greeks. Erianthe was left to her fate on the steps of Knossos Palace, and her parents never knew that she was taken in by an old woman who lived in the crumbling ruins. Theophana, a Malkavian prophetess, raised Erianthe and taught her the ways of the Oracle; the girl served as Theophana's ghoul for almost two centuries.

When Theophana felt a call to leave Crete, she Embraced Erianthe. Theophana left her to serve as the next Oracle, guarded according to tradition by three Black Furies who saw the madness and undead status of the Oracle's position as divinely inspired. Erianthe lived in relative solitude, except for the occasional company of the Furies and visitors among the Awakened who came to seek her guidance. With the exception of Nosferatu Argus Theophilides, no one stays around for very long.

Erianthe always acts with great dignity, yet she suffers from severe depression. After each successful prophecy, she falls into a deep gloom, refuses to feed, and sometimes refuses to take shelter with the approach of dawn. There are times when she looks out over the sparkling waters of the Aegean and long to plunge into the waves. Were it not for Argus and the watchful Furies, this probably would have happened long ago.

Appearance

Dark-haired Erianthe usually appears as a pretty young girl in her first flush of youth. Depending on her visitor, she may also choose to use her Obfuscate to appear as a mature woman in her middle years or as an old crone, thus mimicking the Fates: Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos.
