Item:Saulocept

The Saulocept is an occult item found in VTM: Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines . It can be acquired from the Giovanni Stronghold: when entering the first level of the catacombs, the Saulocept can be found on the ground in an alcove in a chamber to the right.

"A tidal chorus of whispers washes across your thoughts. They seem to be offering guidance, but their message eludes your conscious mind. Their motivations are unknown, but you find yourself increasingly willing to submit to their guidance. As long as you possess Saulocept you will gain an extra point of experience every time you are awarded 3 or more experience. Saulocept may or may not have other effects.

Only six quests award more three or more experience and are able to be finished after gaining the Saulocept:

• Gargoyle Removal Service
• Hunters Hunting
• You Only Die Once a Night
• Bad Luck Farmer
• Gone Fishin'
• The Hitman Impasse

So although the description seems impressive, missing the Saulocept (or completing these quests before finding the Saulocept) would only cause you to miss out on a potential total of 6 XP.

You need a Research skill of at least 8 to use this item.

Once the Research requirement has been met, the item is replaced with the Saulocept.

Background Information

• Several occult items in the game are two objects: one dummy "unknown" item with a skill requirement, and then a full version of the item once the dummy item's requirements have been met.
• item_w_tzimisce_melee, originally an unused "weapon" for Andrei, has been repurposed for the Unknown version of the Saulocept.
• The item seems to be a broken handle of some sort, further reinforced by the name of the model: info_handle. It's not clear what it's supposed to be the handle from.
• The name and description seem to imply that the Saulocept has some connection to Saulot, the Antediluvian founder of the former Salubri clan. The -cept suffix means "taken," suggesting you're somehow letting the essence of Saulot overtake you in order to gain the extra experience.
• The description vaguely mentions other potential effects, but none are known beyond the extra experience gain.
• "Ozzy" is likely meant to be Ozzy Osbourne, "Prince of Darkness" and lead singer of the band Black Sabbath.
