Legend (Scion)

Legend is a measure of a Scion's spiritual potence.

Overview

Scions share the legendary nature of their divine parent; their actions shape the world around them in ways mortals can't, and as they grow in power they distort the fabric of reality until it can no longer contain them.

While a growing Legend gives Scions access to more powerful Boons and other divine abilities, it also attracts counter-currents of Fate. They should expect more strange coincidences and improbable events around them. This is referred to as a Fateful Aura. In addition, sometimes these cross-currents of Fate and Legend drag other people, including mortals, into the Scion's wake. These Fatebound individuals can be friends or foes, but either way, their lives and the Scion's are now entwined.

If a Scion turns their back on their divine gifts and refuses to use their powers, their Legend will fade.

Systems

Legend is an attribute rated from 1 to 12 dots (rather than 1-10 as in most White Wolf games). By default, Scions start with two dots in Legend at character creation. Systems such as Birthrights differ slightly depending on Legend; Scions of Legend 4 or lower are Heroes, Legend 5-8 are Demigods, and 9-12 are Gods in their own right.

Characters have access to a pool of Legend points equal to the square of their Legend rating. These can be spent to activate spells and powerful Boons, re-roll dice, add extra successes to a roll or retroactively change the outcome of a roll. Legend points are replenished when the character acts in accordance with their Virtues or pulls off a truly amazing stunt. Characters also start each new story with a full pool.

If a character goes a month without accessing their Legend, Knacks or Boons, their Legend decreases by one. This may be helpful if the effects of Fatebinding or Fateful Aura are being too deletrious, but it has in-story consequences for the character and their relationship with their patron.
