Mandate of Hell

The Mandate of Hell is a term among the Kuei-jin to describe the legitimacy of a Court and its ruling Ancestor.

Overview

The Mandate of Hell is the counterpart of the Mandate of Heaven that governs mortal institutions. According to the Mandate of Hell, the rulership of a Court is preordained by the Wheel of Ages and the August Personage. Kuei-jin use multiple methods, including divination, astrological charts and horoscopes to divine the chosen figure.

Under the young Kuei-jin, the term has taken a different meaning. It is the justification to rebel against a corrupt, wicked or derelict official of a Court. Elder Kuei-jin refute the legitimacy of this interpretation, but it gains traction among the younger generations, particulary the Bamboo Princes.
