One Language

The One Language, sometimes also referred to as the First Tongue, was the primordial tongue that existed during the Civilization of Ashes.

Overview

The One Language was the language of perfect communication, used to imbue humanity with the ability to understand symbols and think in abstract concepts. The power of the One Language was enough to define humanity anew, making them masters of the world who could understand and name anything they beheld. Among the Ten, Penemue was responsible for spreading the One Language among the humans. Numerous tomes, now lost, were written during this time about the secret workings of the world.

After the rebellious angels were defeated, God wiped the knowledge of the One Language from the collective mind of humanity, dooming them to discord. After his return, the Devil Telchinen tried to teach his thralls the One Language again, but it only resulted in breaking them. His cultists were unable to understand anything but the One Language and every other form of communication was a horrible cacophony for their ears. As a useful side effect, Telchinen discovered that it rendered his thralls immune against illusions and against the horror of the true form of the supernatural. Also, other humans instinctively obeyed commands issued in the One Language of his cultists. If this person hears too much of the One Language, they become infected and also unable to understand anything but it.
