Orisha

An Orisha (pronounced o-ree-shah) is a god, demigod, or deified ancestor in the Yoruba religion. Orishas are great spirit beings. They are often viewed as "patron saints" of their particular realms of influence and are offered prayers and sacrifices in return for their favor. Also known as Loa (pronounced low-ah).
