Penumbrae

The Penumbrae are a bloodline of Kindred. Unlike most bloodlines, these vampires can come from any clan, although they are almost universally loyal to the Circle of the Crone.

Originally a Mekhet cult within the Mother's Army, who tied their Vitae to the Crone's blood magic, the Seers are dream-walkers and prophets. With special rituals, they use the collective unconscious of vampires as a divination tool, accessing the dreams of their Kindred (especially those in torpor) to decipher obscure omens. Often shunned by their fellow Acolytes for their insights, yet forbidden to join other covenants due to an intimate knowledge of Crúac, the Penumbrae eke out solitary Requiems: distrusted, but often indispensable.

History

Some say the Penumbrae were the result of an attempted diablerie that instead led to a partnership, while others claim a mortal prophet somehow entwined her powers with the Blood when she became one of the dead. One rumor speaks of the Unaging One, who could divine answers even without questions. Now forgotten, she may still prognosticate through more modern, digital means.

Bane

In addition to their clan banes, Penumbrae suffer the Somnolent Curse. Exploring dreamscapes and practicing blood magic has left the Seers more vulnerable to torpor. Whenever a Penumbra falls to torpor, the duration is extended based on her skill in Crúac, not only making her more difficult to wake early, but leaving her confused and disoriented on the night of her rising.

Crúac Rites

Penumbrae can access the following rituals:

  • Sanguine Auger – The vampire dreams of a specific victim.
  • Wisdom of the Blood – The Penumbra uses a torpid vampire as a channel for her prophecies.
  • Clotho's Skein – The vampire can walk through dreamscapes and implant a victim with a desire or subtle command.
