Rain trees

Rain trees are a localized oddity near the Mixtec village of Nuviko. Though noted as existing during the reign of Ahuizotl, they presumably still exist in the modern day.

Overview

Unlike most trees, which shield the ground under them from rain, this grove somehow acts as the source of rain for the general area when precipitation comes, leaving the ground beneath them wet and the surrounding region completely arid. The inhabitants of Nuviko adapted to this by simply irrigating from the grove, while relying on the arid environment outside it as a defense from the rest of the world.

Though the cause of the unusual precipitative behavior is unknown, it may be due to the artifacts within the grove — umbrellas from many cultures and times (including times yet to come), models of sea vessels, and a plaque with "water" written on it in every language that has ever existed on Earth or will ever exist.
