Rat Nest
Rat nests are enormous colonies of rats whose presence erodes the local Gauntlet through their persistent gnawing. This usually means that nest first acts as a locus before the rats breed further, eventually developing into a verge.
Certain unusual effects regularly take place in rat nests. Firstly, as the Gauntlet weakens, clock alarms begin to go off, food spoils, lights dim, and drawers open. Secondly, disease and poison become harder to resist. Finally, the rats themselves begin to behave oddly, gathering together into larger, conglomerate forms.
