Scions of the First City

The Scions of the First City are a bloodline of Kindred. Unlike most bloodlines, these vampires can come from any clan, although they are almost universally loyal to the Invictus.

The Scions are a rare religious order within the First Estate, worshiping cities as the embodiment of a mother goddess. They yearn to know the secrets of the First City, a mythological ideal that may be Ubar of the Pillars, or perhaps an abstraction: the very concept of cities. However, part of their worship comes in the form of "extreme" urban renewal. The Harbingers earned their nickname from being walking portents of doom, destroying (even annihilating) cities they perceive as rotting, all for the greater good of their deity.

History

While any Invictus vampire can become a Harbinger, there's debate within the bloodline whether they began as Mekhet or Gangrel, although there seems to be broad consensus that their first members originated in the Classical world. However, one legend says the Scions go back even further, to the lost city of Ubar. The last survivors of the city's destruction believed it had spared them as it fell beneath the sands, and carried on their grateful devotion into new homes.

Bane

In addition to their clan banes, Scions suffer the Mother's Curse. Whenever they find themselves outside the bounds of well-populated metropolis, their fretful Beasts make it difficult to function at all.

Devotions

The Scions tap into their Mother's love with the following Devotions:

  • City Attunement (Auspex 1) - The vampire attunes herself to the city. This Devotion has no mechanical effect, but its use is compulsory to access the Devotions below. However, Scions gain it for free when they learn Beast's Hackles.
  • Incriminating Evidence (Auspex 3) - The city leads the vampire to clues for her investigations.
  • Our Mother's Mind (Auspex 5) - The city guides the vampire toward a specific person, and impedes the victim's escape. However, the Scion must temporarily sacrifice some of her Social Merits to access her goddess's favor.
