Sun's Hand

The Makara are the stream of the folk, the diplomats and go-betweens for the Mokolé. Sun's Hand is remarkable even among his own people for his energy and succesful maneuvering in the complex field of Human-Makara interactions.
Hatched to a Gharial Clutch near Kanpur, India, Sun's Hand saw the swamps vanish as the two-legs drained more and more for their beanfields. The elders of the Clutch knew that he would be a forceful leader when they saw him scaring away villagers and slipping away before retaliation arrived. On the day of his First Change, he assumed the form of a great three-headed Sun-Lizard, a living embodiment of the Makara from legend. His Mnesis was not strong, but his desire for justice was. His human form, in which he entered nearby villages as a beggar or sadhu, served him well as he gathered information about who or what was destroying the land. Memos on the desk of the mayor proved that Magadon wanted the lands for a drug manufacturing plant, and planned to stage an "accident" that would make the land valueless. Sun's Hand vowed to bring them to justice.
He has worked with Human and Gaival as well as the Dragon Breed, and his methods are as subtle as distributing comic books that feature a Gaival as the protagonist, to buying land from the crooked mayor for a "gaival breeding farm", which has become a showpiece for ecodiversity proponents.
Now in his sixties, Sun's Hand is referred to as "The Crowning" by Mokolé-mbembe, even though he is nothing of the kind. He is one of the most prestigious judges in all of India, and petitioners come to him from every clutch across the land. In his gaival form, he is a very large, old Gharial with a prominent red lump on his snout. In Archid form, he has three heads, scaly armor, and huge, tearing claws. This battle-armour has allowed him to thwart Fomori "enforcers" and gangs of Magadon thugs that still seek to lay waste to his home. His human form is an elderly beggar with a long white beard and robes that travels from village to village listening to people talk and offering sermons. He uses the name Vijay Suryadatti in human form.
Sun's Hand has sought alliances with other clutches and streams, although in the present they are becoming more and more difficult to locate. He recently contacted Towers-Above-The-Kings and learned of their troubles. He has offered them refuge on his land, but they are unable to travel so far.
