Sycorax

Sycorax is a 5th generation Tzimisce, one of the chief forces of the clan in sub-Saharan Africa since her sire fell into torpor.

Biography

Sycorax is described as a "witch", implying aptitude in the koldunic arts of her Clan. After Demdemeh sunk into torpor, Sycorax hoped to rule her domain without his interference. She chose the Nok culture as her people, but her rule was immediately challenged by the Yorùbá and their ajogun magicians, who saw Sycorax and the "followers of Cagn" as abominations. Harassed and driven through Africa, she was eventually forced to awaken her sire to come to her aid. By the time, the slave trade had greatly harmed the Yorùbá people, which only fanned the hatred of the ajogun.

Despite treaties with foreign Kindred, Sycorax and Demdemeh could not turn the tide in her Clan's favor. Sycorax was eventually slain by some of the remaining ajogun, leaving the African Tzimisce to spread along regional coastlines or outskirts.

Trivia

Sycorax is a vicious and powerful witch in William Shakespeare's play The Tempest.
