Syntax

Syntax is a Glass Walker Ragabash appearing in Rage.

Biography

An only child whose mother died of cancer a year after her birth, Susanna Willingham was raised by her father, a theoretical mathematician at the University of Washington. Professor Willingham was a logical, exact man, distrustful of emotion and dedicated to precision in every area of his life, including the rearing of his daughter. Until she was 10, Susanna lived mostly within their condominium in Seattle, where her father spent hours a day "home-schooling" her in facts and figures and logic. She learned a lot about the worlds of science, but next to nothing about the world beyond the door.

Then her father left academia, taking a position with a growing computer design firm, and he was no longer able to devote much time to Susanna's education. She was sent to a private school, where her complete lack of socialization made her the butt of her classmates' cruelties. She retreated into her mind, into the logic and science that had been her bedrock for years, and though she was a natural beauty, she learned to avoid attention, to steal through life like a shadow at night.

A year ago, at 19, Susanna was kidnapped by the Glass Walkers of Seattle. It was revealed to her that her mother had been Kinfolk and that she herself was Garou. Though Susanna refused to accept the story as truth, during her Rite of Passage she was the first of her pack to change, exploding into Crinos, releasing years of pent-up anger on a Pentex security squad. Thereafter, she realized this was her place - this was the community that had been denied her so long and this mission - to save Gaia from Her despoilers - was hers. Though wilderness terrified her, she knew she could fight for it in the cities with her tribe and took to the war with a patriot's zeal.

No record remains, anywhere, of Susanna Willingham's identity or past. Now the girl who learned the way that things fit together us using that knowledge to pull things apart... and the name of Syntax is on its way to becoming legend.

Syntax comes across like a winter wind: cold and intense and impossible to ignore. She only speaks when she has to and dislikes attention, yet her beauty draws the eye like a single star in a black sky.

Trivia

A promotional card version of Syntax could be found as an insert in the CCG magazine: Scrye #7 May/Jun. 1995. Or one could get it by attending the following conventions and picking it up at the White Wolf booth: GenCon 1995 and Origins 1995.

The promo card is very hard to tell apart from the Unlimited card as both lack the Upper Deck circle hologram seal. But the card text structure should not perfectly match either the Limited or Unlimited set versions (With the "All" being in the first sentence structure of the card rather than the second).
