Etymology

Borrowed from Old Persian 𐎶𐎰𐎡𐏁𐎫 (m-θ-i-š-t /⁠Maθištaʰ⁠/, literally greatest, supreme). Might originally have been a title maθišta pasā tanūm (the greatest after myself (the king)).[1]
