Calque of French stéatopygie. From στέαρ (stéar, hard fat, suet) + στεατ- (steat-) + the interfix -ο- (-o-) + πῡγ(ή) (pūg(ḗ), buttocks) + the suffix -ία (-ía). First attested in 1896.[1]
