Etymology

Perhaps a borrowing from an Iranian compound, the constituents of which are cognate with Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (xwastan /⁠hwstn'⁠/, to tread, trample; to thresh) and Sanskrit घन (ghana, destroyer, murderer; slaying, murder), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰen-.[1]
