Inherited from Prakrit *𑀅𑀮𑁆𑀮𑀟 (*allaḍa). Cognate with Urdu اَلْہَڑ (alhaṛ) / Hindi अल्हड़ (alhaṛ), Sindhi اَلَڙُ (alaṛu), Marathi अल्लड (allaḍ), Gujarati અલ્લડ (allaḍ) and Nepali अल्लड (allaḍ) / अल्लढ (allaḍh).
