Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘢𑘡𑘝𑘻 (panato), from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀧𑀦𑀢𑀺 (panati, Dhauli), from Sanskrit प्रणपात् (praṇapāt). Compare Nepali पनाति (panāti), पनातिनी (panātinī), Odia ପଣନାତି (pôṇônati).
