Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘨𑘓𑘜𑘹 (raċaṇe), from a passive derivative of Sanskrit रच् (rac) (attested as रचयति (racayati, “to fashion”)). Cognate with Gujarati રચવું (racvũ), Hindustani رَچْنَا (racnā) / रचना (racnā), Sindhi رَچَڻُ / रचणु, Punjabi ਰਚਣਾ (racṇā) / رَچݨا (racṇā), Nepali रच्नु (racnu).
