Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit *𑀉𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀘𑁆𑀘𑀇 (*uppaccaï), from Sanskrit *उत्पच्यते (utpacyate, to boil over), from उद्- (ud-, over, above) + पच्यते (pacyate, to be cooked). Cognate with Odia ଉପଚିବ (upôcibô). Doublet of পচা (poca) (see there for more).
