Borrowed from Assamese কামৰূপ (kamrup), from Sanskrit कामरूप (kāmarūpa). Cognate with Prakrit 𑀓𑀸𑀫𑀭𑀽𑀅 (kāmarūa), Kamarupi Prakrit 𑖎𑖯𑖦𑖨𑗝 (kāmarū), Middle Bengali কাঙুর (kaṅur), Awadhi काँवरू (kā̃vrū), Bhojpuri 𑂍𑂫𑂀𑂩𑂴 (kavãrū), Odia କାଉଁରି (kaũri), Portuguese Caor.
