  1. (historical) A type of Victorian seltzer bottle, consisting of two mesh-encased glass globes arranged so that a reaction between tartaric acid and sodium bicarbonate produced carbon dioxide gas which carbonated the enclosed beverage and expelled it through a siphon valve.
