paragină

Etymology

Unknown. Possibly linked to Hungarian parrag, parlag (whence the Romanian words pârlog, pârloagă), but the phonetic transition is difficult. Another theory is from Latin vorāgō, vorāginem, influenced by pârlog or părăsi, or a Latin root *piraginem but this is also unlikely. It is possible that it derives from a Romanian root *părajină, from the verb părădui. [1]
