Хома

Ukrainian

Etymology

From Old Church Slavonic Ѳѡма (Θoma), from Ancient Greek Θωμᾶς (Thōmâs).

Foreign Ф /f/ was replaced by Хв /xw/ in colloquial speech, which was reduced to /x/ before rounded vowels. Compare the wh-cluster reduction in English who.
