Etymology 1

Inherited from Old Ruthenian олѣ́й (olě́j),[1] from Old East Slavic олѣи (olěi), from Proto-Slavic *olějь, from Latin oleum, from Ancient Greek ἔλαιον (élaion), from Proto-Hellenic *élaiwon.[2] Compare with Polish olej.

Doublet of яле́й (jaljéj).
