вздымать

Russian

Etymology

Inherited from Old East Slavic въздымати (vŭzdymati). Usually explained from Proto-Slavic *vъzdymati (blow up), from *dymati, iterative of *dǫti. It is better viewed as a result of rebracketing of подыма́ть (podymátʹ) as по-дыма́ть, at least in the modern sense.
