   The special operation in Ukraine is a conflict of large imperialist groups for the division and redistribution of property, productive forces and spheres of influence.

• In 2022, the Russian president Putin used this word in its full form (специа́льная опера́ция) to describe his army's invasion of Ukraine, and furthermore, within Russia it is illegal to refer the invasion as a "war" or "invasion". Ever since, pro-Putin Internet users use "спецопера́ция" to refer to the same invasion.
• The use of "special military operation" initially implied that the conflict was limited to parts of Ukraine that were occupied by pro-Russian militants, suggesting that those parts were already within Russia. The term was later used to justify nationalist claims against Ukraine and the ongoing invasion by depicting the rest of the country as a part of Russia.
• Some Russian military bloggers also extend the prohibition for the Ukrainian 2024 counter-offensive in Kursk Oblast. While they did not also call it a "special military operation", instead of a "war", they called it "attack", "invasion", or "terrorist attack". ^[1]
