Etymology

Via an intermediary (probably Mongolic) source, from Turkic *quduğ "well" (compare Old Uyghur [script needed] (quduğ, “water well”);[1]), from Proto-Turkic *kud- (“to pour”).

Compare ҡойо (qoyo), the native Kypchak development from the same archetype, and ҡоҙоҡ (qoźoq).

Immediately comparable toh Southern Altai кутук (kutuk), Khakas хутух (xutux, “well”).
