Loanword from Akkadian 𒅎𒋗𒆸 (tinūrum). Compare also Middle Persian tnwl (tanūr, “oven”). This word has been borrowed into Aramaic as תנורא / ܬܰܢܽܘܪܳܐ (tannūrā) and therethrough spawned Arabic تَنُّور (tannūr).
