Inherited from Proto-Iranian *wáhištHáhuš (literally “best existence”) from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hwásištʰas (“best”) + *Hásuš (“life”) from Proto-Indo-European *h₁wésus (“good”) and *h₁es- (“to be”). Cognate with Persian بِهِشْت (behešt) and Avestan 𐬬𐬀𐬵𐬌𐬱𐬙𐬋𐬀𐬢𐬵𐬎𐬱 (vahištōaŋhuš)
