From the previous form ܐܲܪܢܒ݂ܵܐ (arnḇā), inherited from Aramaic אַרְנְבָא (ʾarnəḇā), from Proto-Semitic *ʔarnab-; compare Turoyo ܐܱܪܢܘܘܐ (ärnuwo), Classical Syriac ܐܪܢܒܐ (ʾarnəḇā), Arabic أَرْنَب (ʔarnab), and Hebrew אַרְנָב (arnáv).
